“We bring to you some features that come exclusively with the latest version of Android – Honeycomb 3.0 – that has been exclusively designed for the emerging tablet market”
Google’s Android operating system has taken the mobile phone industry by storm, and gadget gurus are loving this brilliant platform.
The OS has seen a lot of development since its inception last year, with current version being 3.0 Honeycomb that has been developed exclusively for the emerging touchscreen tablet market. Here, we bring to you some features that come exclusively with the Honeycomb version:
Redesigned Interface
The home screen has been tweaked significantly to provide more space for free movement of widgets and icons. The UI has also been optimised to serve this well. The notification bar given on the bottom of the screen should prove conducive for speedy access to notifications.
All new keypad
Touch screen keypads have always proved to be a bit clumsy even if they are well optimised. Identifying this problem, Honeycomb developers have introduced a target keyboard, utilising the larger screen space. The keys have been reshaped and spaced out to reduce typo errors. Tab key has also been placed this time to offer users more effective text input options.
Redesigned widgets
With a bigger screen comes the next generation of widgets. The new widgets have been redesigned to make it easier for app developers to add content to existing applications. These widgets also support the holographic UI theme.
Support for 3D graphics accelerator
The Android Honeycomb supports hardware accelerated OpenGL renderer, significantly increasing the performance of many common graphic intensive operations.
Browser enhancements
The browser has also been perked up to further enhance your internet experience. The stock browser can now be synced with Google Chrome to download your bookmarks on the tablet, something that should go down well with many consumers using multiple browsing devices.

Cricket: A boon for mobile advertisers

“Mobile advertising firm InMobi reveals the immense opportunity for brands to reach cricket lovers via mobile phones”
In today’s hectic world, people are always on the run and it is nearly impossible to stay at home to watch cricket matches. Cricket lovers have widely started subscribing to mobile services such as live scores, latest results, schedules and points table.

During the cricket season, there has also been an increase in downloads of mobile content like cricket wallpapers, games, news and analysis by experts, and much more. Moreover, with the number of smartphones increasing, there has been a steep growth in live video streaming to view match highlights.
A white paper ‘Mobile is my addiction, Cricket is my religion’ released by mobile advertising firm InMobi reveals the immense opportunity for brands to reach this audience via mobiles as this device has the maximum number of users in India.
The study says that number of mobile phones in the country pips the number of TV sets. There are more than 660 million handsets in comparison to 250 million televisions across the nation. Moreover, there is a specific time given to the television whereas mobile accompanies us everywhere.
It also says that the mobile phone encompasses all other mediums of communications as it supports all features such as audio, video, social and connected.
“Given the rich content and media experience building up around the game, advertisers that affiliate themselves with cricket will improve their connection to consumers and position themselves as modern, relevant brands,” mentions the study.
InMobi also states that there has been a different trend in the mobile internet ad space as against the internet on a computer. “In the Internet world, people click ads mainly to surf and learn something new. But in the mobile world, people click on ads for a different reason. This clearly shows that mobile is not the PC and shouldn’t be treated like an extension of it. Unlike PC, mobile brings to the table many dimensions of creative opportunity,” says the report.
The number of mobile internet users has grown massively to more than five times in last five years and now, we are the second largest mobile internet consumers in the world. Moreover, according to the survey, people are getting more comfortable with mobile advertisements and look for benefits from them.
With close to 72 per cent respondents being optimistic about mobile advertising, the future is certainly bright.
