“Mobile advertising firm InMobi reveals the immense opportunity for brands to reach cricket lovers via mobile phones”
In today’s hectic world, people are always on the run and it is nearly impossible to stay at home to watch cricket matches. Cricket lovers have widely started subscribing to mobile services such as live scores, latest results, schedules and points table.During the cricket season, there has also been an increase in downloads of mobile content like cricket wallpapers, games, news and analysis by experts, and much more. Moreover, with the number of smartphones increasing, there has been a steep growth in live video streaming to view match highlights.
A white paper ‘Mobile is my addiction, Cricket is my religion’ released by mobile advertising firm InMobi reveals the immense opportunity for brands to reach this audience via mobiles as this device has the maximum number of users in India.
The study says that number of mobile phones in the country pips the number of TV sets. There are more than 660 million handsets in comparison to 250 million televisions across the nation. Moreover, there is a specific time given to the television whereas mobile accompanies us everywhere.
It also says that the mobile phone encompasses all other mediums of communications as it supports all features such as audio, video, social and connected.
“Given the rich content and media experience building up around the game, advertisers that affiliate themselves with cricket will improve their connection to consumers and position themselves as modern, relevant brands,” mentions the study.
InMobi also states that there has been a different trend in the mobile internet ad space as against the internet on a computer. “In the Internet world, people click ads mainly to surf and learn something new. But in the mobile world, people click on ads for a different reason. This clearly shows that mobile is not the PC and shouldn’t be treated like an extension of it. Unlike PC, mobile brings to the table many dimensions of creative opportunity,” says the report.
The number of mobile internet users has grown massively to more than five times in last five years and now, we are the second largest mobile internet consumers in the world. Moreover, according to the survey, people are getting more comfortable with mobile advertisements and look for benefits from them.
With close to 72 per cent respondents being optimistic about mobile advertising, the future is certainly bright.
